What motivated your decision to relocate, and how did the opportunity come about?

I was motivated by the chance to gain international experience and take on a new challenge in a different part of the business. The move offered an opportunity to work with a new team and understand manufacturing operations in a different market, which was really exciting.

The role in Modulair, Portugal came up through conversations with my manager and the HR team, who recognized my experience and potential to contribute. Knowing the company supported internal mobility made the decision feel achievable. Overall, it felt like a natural step in my career growth.

How did you prepare for relocating?

I spent time learning about the local operations, regulations, and business practices to ensure I could hit the ground running. I also researched the cultural differences and lifestyle to make the transition smoother. Connecting with the new team ahead of the move helped establish relationships and build trust before arrival.

On a personal level, I made arrangements for housing and practical logistics, which reduced stress during the transition. Preparation gave me confidence and allowed me to focus on contributing from day one.

What would you say to a colleague who’s thinking about relocating with the company?

I’d encourage them to seriously consider it, as it’s a unique chance to grow both personally and professionally. Relocating pushes you out of your comfort zone and opens doors to new networks, experiences, and opportunities.

How has this move helped you grow, both personally and professionally?

Professionally, it has broadened my project management skills by exposing me to different operational approaches and challenges. It’s also strengthened my ability to work across teams and adapt quickly to new environments.

Personally, living in a new country has enhanced my independence, resilience, and cultural awareness. I’ve also learned to navigate new ways of communicating and collaborating, which has improved my leadership style. Overall, the move has been a significant step in both my career development and personal growth.

What’s been the most surprising or rewarding part of relocating?

The most rewarding part has been seeing how our projects directly impact the business and working with a highly motivated new team. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how welcoming and collaborative everyone has been. Experiencing a different culture and lifestyle has also been enriching, giving me a fresh perspective on work-life balance. Additionally, facing and overcoming challenges in a new environment has boosted my confidence. It’s been a combination of professional achievement and personal fulfillment.
