What led you to take on a new role in a new location?
Taking on the Regional Operations Director role was a fantastic opportunity for me, having previously worked as a Plant and Operations Manager in both Europe and Australia. It felt like a natural next step, and I had the experience to make the transition.
When the opportunity arose to support the integration of the newly acquired business it felt like the right move - a great chance to experience a new region, work in a different environment. Being based in Asia made a lot of sense for the business, as it’s more central to our manufacturing operations and countries we operate in.
How did you prepare for relocating and stepping into a new position at the same time?
Logistically, there was a lot involved — visas, housing, and packing everything up. I also spent a lot of time over the last 18 months understanding the new business, their processes, and their way of working, which really supported the transition
What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them?
No doubt it was a big challenge, but the company have been very supportive with everything, helping me settle both professionally and personally. The main challenges were finding accommodation, organising transport, and managing the visa process. But the company has helped with all of this, which allowed me to settle quickly and as comfortably as possible.
What new skills, responsibilities, or experiences have you gained in your new role?
The main thing has been Working with different cultures and learning how to engage effectively with people.
How has this move helped you grow, both personally and professionally?
Starting over in a new country away from everything you’re used to makes you more self-reliant, but it also opens your mind to different cultures and new ways of living. It has definitely pushed me outside my comfort zone, but I think I’ve adjusted well.
What would you tell someone considering a career move that involves relocation?
Do it. It’s a fantastic opportunity to live and work somewhere new, and it’s rewarding both professionally and personally. International experience broadens your thinking, builds resilience, and improves how you work with different cultures. If the opportunity fits your personal and professional goals, take it.
