What motivated your decision to relocate, and how did the opportunity come about?

I’ve always had a desire to relocate and experience different operations environments within the company. From the moment I joined, leadership was supportive of internal mobility, which made it clear that opportunities to grow and gain diverse experience were encouraged. The chance to move from managing one manufacturing plant in the UK to a plant in the US came naturally.

How has your day-to-day experience changed since relocating - professionally or personally?

Professionally, the plant operations are structured differently, with new priorities, processes, and local regulations, which required me to adapt and learn quickly.  Personally, relocating meant adapting to a new city and culture, building a new support network, and establishing a new routine.

What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them?

One challenge was understanding the local operational practices while maintaining the standards and expectations I was accustomed to.

Another challenge was settling into a new environment personally. I overcame these by actively observing and listening, asking questions, seeking guidance from local mentors, and focusing on building strong relationships with the team.

Patience and openness to learning were key.

In what ways has relocating helped you grow professionally?

Relocating pushed me to approach operations with a fresh perspective. I had to reassess processes, understand new supply chain dynamics, and learn how to lead teams with different expectations and ways of working. This experience strengthened my adaptability, problem-solving, and leadership skills. Being exposed to a different operational context has deepened my understanding of the business as a whole and made me a more versatile manager.

What would you tell someone considering a career move that involves relocation?

If you’re thinking about relocating, I’d say embrace it as an opportunity to grow. Moving to a new location challenges your assumptions, expands your perspective, and strengthens skills you might not even realize you had.
