Can you tell us about your career journey so far and how this promotion came about?

My career with Tate began in 2018 when I joined the graduate program and took on my first role in Hull, UK. Since then, it has been an incredibly rewarding journey, spanning four different roles across four locations.

My most recent promotion and relocation followed discussions with my manager about my next career steps and an opportunity driven by growing demand in the United States market. After interviewing with the U.S. team, I relocated to Baltimore in March 2025 to begin my role as Senior Engineering Project Manager.

So far, the experience has been both professionally and personally fulfilling. I’ve had the opportunity to manage three large-scale projects in Red Lion, while also enjoying everything the American summer has to offer.

Were there moments when you questioned your readiness and how did you push through?

For my first promotion at Tate, I transitioned into a management role overseeing a team of 10+.

Although it was my first role with direct people-management responsibility, it reflected the confidence placed in me and provided an opportunity to learn from and work alongside a highly experienced team.

Is there anyone in the business that has played a key role in your development, and what did their support mean to you?

Lee Manford joined the business in 2022 and since then he has been a huge support to me as both a mentor and manager.

Whether it be guidance regarding decision making in projects, a technical question that I’m struggling with or someone to call for a chat, Lee has been the guy.

Lee’s support has played a key role in my professional development in the past few years.

What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve received and how has it stayed with you?

When it comes to Engineering and Project Management there can be vast amounts of equipment and processes that you need to interact with.

Being successful in the role doesn’t require you to be a subject matter expert in each area as this would be impossible for most. What is important is how you manage the unknowns or areas you have less experience in.

Building strong working relationships with industry experts, finding companies that you are confident working with and being strategic with the questions you ask can greatly increase your chances of success in a project or the day-to-day support of a manufacturing facility.
