What led you to take on a new role in a new location? Was it a promotion, a change in direction, or an opening that matched your goals?
A combination of all three. I was looking to continue growing my career, and I've always been motivated by change. New environments, new teams, new challenges, that's where you learn the most.
Relocating to the U.S. had always been something I wanted to do, so when the opportunity came up within Tate, it felt like the right moment. Moving is a big step, but being able to do it within a company you value, alongside people you trust, makes a huge difference.
Ultimately, it was about progression, both professionally and personally, and the chance to experience a new market and business landscape.
How did you prepare for relocating and stepping into a new position at the same time?
From a professional standpoint, the support structure within Kingspan makes a real difference. There's a strong focus on ensuring transitions are set up for success, from practical support like accommodations to helping you get established quickly.
What stands out is the people. Tate is a very people-focused organization, and you feel that immediately. There's always someone willing to help, share insight, or offer guidance. That creates a strong foundation when you're stepping into something new.
What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them?
There are always challenges with a move like this. You're leaving behind familiar surroundings, so there's a natural adjustment period, both personally and professionally. The logistics alone can be demanding.
But those challenges are part of the value of the experience. Being in a new environment gives you a different perspective, not just on work, but on how you approach problems and opportunities.
There's a comfort in staying where you are, but there are also limits to that. Taking the step to move pushes you to grow, adapt, and challenge yourself in ways you otherwise wouldn't.
What new skills, responsibilities, or experiences have you gained in your new role?
One of the biggest shifts for me was moving beyond a purely finance-focused role into broader general management. That comes with a different set of challenges, especially when you're working across new teams and functions.
A key area of growth has been people leadership. Understanding how to work with different teams, how to communicate effectively, and how to bring people with you. Those are critical skills at this level.
With Tate, you're given exposure to a wide range of leaders and functions, which accelerates that development. It gives you the opportunity to build both your technical understanding of the business and your ability to lead within it.
